Periodical Inspection Reports

Documentation of inspection and testing.

There is a legal obligation on employers to maintain all Electrical Installations in a safe condition. (Electricity At Work Act Regulation 4 and 16, Health and Safety Executive Guidance Note GS27, Institute of Electrical Engineers Wiring Regulations BS7671)

You must keep records of when you made visual inspections in line with your company risk assessment and details of faults found. These records will be asked for in any health and safety visit.

As an employer you must have reports :

  • Ensuring that appliance inspection and testing is someone’s specific responsibility. We can take on this duty for you.
  • Keeping a log book or register of portable appliances and keeping a record of inspection/test results, in order to ensure that all equipment is inspected when due. We can help you with this by logging each item as we inspect it.
  • Labeling equipment when tested with a due date for its next inspection or test. We do this as part of our tests.
  • It is essential that any appliance that fails a safety inspection or test is removed from circulation, and labeled as not suitable for use. We do this as part of the tests.
  • The inspection and test intervals should be reviewed in the light of experience, as information on faulty equipment is accumulated and where equipment is repaired testing is considered to be necessary to re-affirm its safety. We can help you with this.
